The Cairns Yoga Academy Beginner Classes are for beginners and a great place to start if you are re-visiting your yoga practice. You will learn to stretch, strengthen, and release tension while developing concentration and awareness. These classes provide you with an understanding of basic yoga postures, breathing techniques and meditation practices.
How Often Should I Attend?
Yoga is amazing–even if you only practice for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice. If you can do more than that, you will certainly experience more benefits & quicker. You will likely find that after a while your desire to practice expands naturally and you will find yourself doing more and more.
Most students start by attending 1x per week and quickly up the ante by attending 2x per week. Our recommendation is that you attend 2x per week. Our goal is to inspire you to develop a daily home practice which is supplemented by regular guided yoga classes at the Cairns Yoga Academy.
Things You Should Know Before You Start
- We ask that you help us maintain a fragrance-free environment. Please refrain from wearing any perfumes or scented body products.
- Bare feet are recommended for all Yoga classes.
- Yoga mats are available for free.We recommend you have your own, they are available for purchase ($25) at our shop or online.
- Leave your shoes outside the door, turn off your mobile and sign in on the log sheet. It is best to arrive 10 minutes prior to class to familiarise yourself with the studio.
- Let the teacher know before the class, if you have any past or present injuries or any other medical conditions.

What if I can't do a pose?
With the help of our teachers, you will be directed to the class that is appropriate for you. The teachers will always give various options for a particular pose, so that everybody will be able to do something. This is YOUR practice and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible! We foster a non-competitive environment and ask that you honor your body and to do only what feels right for you.
Do I need to register for class ahead of time or online?
Yes, please book yourself in, as class numbers are limited. You can do this on-line via our contact page or call 0413 942 938. We recommend arriving to class about 15 minutes early. We would like to get to know you, show you around and allow time for you to fill in a registration form.
