Intermediate Yoga Classes Print E-mail

yoga pose forward bendThis level of classes are open to students who have been attending beginners classes for at least 6 months and the teacher has personally told you, that you can move on to the intermediate level.

The focus in this class is on more refined alignment principles to enhance flexibility and building more upper body strength, as arm balances such as handstand preparations and other arm balances are being introduced. Headstand and freestanding shoulderstands are also part of the practice as well as more challenging backbends and one legged balancing poses.

Some classes are based more on technique and precision of execution of the poses hence poses are being held longer whereas other classes are a vinyasa based (flow style) practice, depending on the teacher’s curriculum. Various pranayama (breathing) methods are being introduced such as Ujjayi Breath, Viloma (staggered breath), Nadhi Shodana (Alternate Nostril breathing), Kapalabhati (Breath of Fire). Meditation skills and philosophy lectures are part of every class.

Most students stay at this level for up to 3 years before they are being invited by the teacher to join the advanced level.
